scope of work

UDC were appointed to deliver the refurbishment and remodelling of the Oakhill Satellite provision for Wellspring Academy Trust. the project involved stripping out the existing school interiors and transforming the space into a modern and functional learning environment.

the refurbishment included the installation of a steel goalpost frame to support the new classroom area, alongside new bi-fold doors to improve access and connectivity within the space. existing kitchen facilities were removed and replaced with new kitchens on both the ground and first floors.

a complete mechanical and electrical upgrade was undertaken, including the installation of new boilers, electrical distribution systems and associated services. new bathroom and toilet facilities were also provided, incorporating back-to-wall toilet panels, troughs and hand dryers.

the works also included the installation of new doors and glass screens, alongside new sluice rooms with facilities to support the needs of the pupils. new flooring and ceilings were installed throughout, with the internal spaces finished with a full programme of decoration and painting.

challenges faced

the refurbishment was completed within a demanding six-week programme. one of the primary challenges was coordinating the extensive range of works within the available timeframe, requiring careful planning, sequencing and management to ensure the project remained on schedule.

to meet the programme requirements, the team worked extended shifts, allowing the works to progress efficiently and ensuring the refurbishment was completed within the agreed timeframe. as the project was carried out in an unoccupied environment, the team were able to undertake the works without the disruption associated with working around pupils and staff.

outcome

the project was successfully delivered within the agreed six-week programme, transforming the Oakhill Satellite provision into a modern and functional learning environment for Wellspring Academy Trust.

the refurbishment provided improved classroom spaces, upgraded kitchen and welfare facilities, and new mechanical and electrical installations to support the ongoing use of the building. the completed works have created a more welcoming and practical environment for pupils and staff, with the finished spaces providing a significant improvement to the overall feel of the provision.

the completed refurbishment has been very well received by the school, with positive feedback from both staff and pupils. the quality of the finished spaces and the transformation achieved within the limited timeframe were also recognised by the client and wider project team.
